OCRA Alum Creek 2002

September 21-22, Alum Creek State Park, Ohio

The Alum Creek OCRA regatta was held this weekend, September 21-22, 2002. The Friday evening front failed to progress as projected and the winds remained light until just after the awards ceremony on Sunday.

The regatta finished with 2 races on Saturday morning and 2 on Sunday morning. The race committee attempted to run an afternoon race on Saturday but as soon as the wind gods saw the boats hit the water they immediately showed control and went to 0 knts. Sunday started the same but built to a streaky 2-5 knots with some brief gusts. As is very typical in an OCRA regatta, about every boat class was represented in this Portsmouth racing organization. The oldest entry was the Shark class (pic dsc01996) with two boats and the newest was the F18ht entry (pic dsc02004). The largest class by far was the Mystere 4.3 class with 8 boats (pic dsc02002). Also notable was the two Tiapan 4.9s. Peg returned from injured reserves to crew with Bill Gillespie winning the low Portsmouth on their black I20. Mike Fahle dominated the high Portsmouth on the M4.3 and the overall Portsmouth honors. Steve Attard took the medium Portsmouth on a Hobie 18.

The Saturday night party was hosted by Duncan and Anne Spillman in their new house. It was an excellent location with the multilevel deck overlooking the Muirfield ravine. The party excitement peaked when the OCRA children uncovered a nest of bees buried near the woods.

Complete results will be posted to the OCRA web site but I have posted the overall Portsmouth numbers at the bottom of this page.
